A quarterback they haven’t seen and a running back many haven’t heard of where the two keys on Sunday as the Rams beat up and beat down the Broncos 22-7 in a stunning setback for Denver in the Gateway City.
Shaun Hill outplayed Peyton Manning, throwing for 220 yards and hooking up with Kenny Britt for 128 yards including a huge 63-yard TD to get the Rams off and running in the victory.
With Manning and the Broncos offense not able to get much going rookie Tre Mason wore down the Broncos, going for 113 yards on 29 carries.
The 129 yards is the most allowed by the Broncos’ top-ranked run defense this season.
Greg Zuerlein was a career-best 5 for 5 on field goals for the Rams (4-6).
Manning was hurried quite a bit, throwing 34 for 54 for 389 yards with two interceptions. The only score of the day was a 42-yard touchdown pass to Emmanuel Sanders.
The one TD ends a streak of 15 consecutive games with at least two touchdown passes.
The Broncos (7-3) were held to 28 yards rushing and failed twice on fourth down deep in St. Louis territory.
Manning threw incomplete from the 37 in the first quarter and rookie Aaron Donald’s sack ended a drive in the fourth quarter on fourth-and-4 from the 28.
Next week the Broncos are back at home to take on the Dolphins, who will come to Denver after winning on Thursday night against the Bills at home.
