Previewing the Saints at Broncos

TD Denver
After escaping narrow defeat thanks to a bad call, the Broncos look to move to 3-0 Sunday as they take on the offensive powered Saints at home at Invesco Field. Denver not only got the called that saved the game, they also went for a gutsy two-point conversion, and got it. It was the type of call that can set the course for the season, and in a season where nothing seems to be going as planned, it could be a play that the team can look back on in months and look at as the turning point for a big season.

As for the Saints, their win opening day at home vs the Buccaneers was pushed aside with a rather tough to swallow road loss to the Skins 29-24. They were held to 250 yards of offense, and couldn’t put the game away even after they had a nine-point lead in the fourth quarter. The team has got to start playing better away from home, where they Sunday gave up two TD’s in the final six minutes.

Look for the Saints to try once again to start to establish the run game. Versus the Skins they had just 55 yards on 19 carries. Look for them to start with the run vs Denver, which also will keep Jay Cutler and the high powered Denver offense off the field. If the Saints can do that, they will have a much better shot of leaving Denver with a win and a 2-1 record.

The Broncos will look to make the Saints one dimensional, holidng down the running game and making Drew Brees throw and throw a lot. Last week he had 33 pass attempts, but completed 22 passes for just 216 yards. The Broncos will take that this week, and those types of numbers would likely equal a Broncos win. Look for Cutler and the Broncos offense to attack the weak Saints secondary, and then cross them up with the run to keep the defensive backs honest.

In the end, it’s very tough to win at Invesco, and the Saints are likely to have a tough time moving the ball, as well as stopping Cutler and an offense that right now is very much in stride. It may very well be a long day for the Saints, as Denver should be able to win the battles on both the lines of scrimmage and take home a win to stay undefeated after three weeks.
