Present status of the Team
Deep, Deep Breath. As you know the Broncos are in OTAs and soon in mandantarty Mini Camp. There are a lot of battles for positions going on. 1st, at QB. Mark Sanchez, Trevor Sieman and this first round pick of Paxton Lynch are getting equal reps in practice. Sanchez gets the nod with NFL experience. Sieman with knowledge of the Broncos Offense and Lynch with rawborn upside. Kubiach has said he thinks this will end with one emerging with the edge. So keep a close eye on this battle. Devontae Booker was drafted and may be the steal of the draft. Last but not
The Wide Recievers are heralded by Demaryius Thomas and Emmanuel Sanders who can also play the slot position. Benny Fowler, Jordan Norwood, Jordan Taylor and Cody Latimer are favored to make the roster, but several WR’s in camp could Ace one of those out. Not Likely, but could happen.
At RB, C.J.Anderson, Ronnie Hillman and Juwan Thompson are holdovers from last season with Thompson playing both at RB and FB. And they drafted Devontae Booker who may be the steal of tbe draft And last but not least is Kapri Bibbs, who played on the Practice Squad the last two years. But they told him he really needed to show up well this season and Kubiach really thinks he is doing that. And if anyone is let go, it’ll probably be Harmon as he only signed a one year agreement and doesnt have a lot of dead money in that contract. They also drafted a FB in Andy Janovich, who had an excellent season in his senior year at Nebraska. So also keep your eye on this battle.
Now at TE, they have Vernon Greene who had a pretty good season last year. And they signed Garret Graham who is very familiar with this offense, playing for Kubiach with the Texans. And they will have last years draft pick Jeff Heuerman back as he was on IR last season with a knee injury. But he has the makings and upside of a great TE. All three are good blockers and have good hands for passing, so expect them all to contribute.
Lastly on Offense, we will have a revamped OL, with only Matt Paradis at Center returning. They signed Russ.el Okung who signed after playing LT for the Seahawks and Donald Stephenson RT from the Chiefs. Two young guards in Ty Sambrailo and Max Garcia, who played a lot of reps last year. Sambrailo is coming off of IR last season, also with a knee injury. He played the first three games last year before he was injured, but has tremendous upside. So a Offensive Line of Okung at LT, Sambrailo at LG, Paradis at Center, Garcia at RG and Stephenson at RT will probably start. And they have great depth at that position. And they all are familiar with Zone Blocking so, All in All, I think we will have a much better year of Offense this season.
Now on Defense we have all starters back except Malick Jackson at NT and Danny Trevathon at WS LB. Expect Sylester Williams, Jared Crick and Darius Kilgo to be a three man rotation. They also have good depth there. And at DE, Derek Wolfe will Start on one side, with Vance Walker and Kenny Anunike to rotate on the other side, with Crick also playing there at times.
At LB we have DeMarcus Ware at W OLB and Von Miller at S OLB. Shane Ray will be the main rotator especially for Ware as he’ll play mostly on obvious passing plays.
Now in replacing Trevathon, the lead candidate is Todd Davis, who filled in and played very well last year. we also have Corey Nelson who has two years of experience, primarily on Special Teams. And a player that the coaches really paid attention last season Zaire Anderson. So keep an eye on that competition too. And these LB will stand up to any of best in the NFL
DB are in great shape too with Chris Harris Jr. and Aqid Talib starting at CB. Bradley Roby and Kayvon Webster got a lot l of reps last year. And at Safety they drafted Will Parks and Justin Simmons in the draft to add valuable backup to Darius Stewart and T.J. Ward.
And finally on Special Teams, they drafted a punter, Riley Dixon to give Britton Colquit a great competion and Dixon is performing very well so far.
In sum, I think they have the potential to have a better team on both sides of the ball. So Broncos, take us all on another very exciting magic carpet ride and work really hard and smart and bring another Super Bowl Championship for yourselves and Worldwide Broncos Country!!!
