Post Draft Musings

Well, all the hobhad and hoopla of the draft is over, I think it was a very good draft overall. They had 10 picks going into the draft and came out with 8 choices and a 4th Round pick. We picked up three speedy young men, two recievers, Carlos Henderson out of La.Tech and Isihia McKenzie out of Georgia, and a running back DeAngola Harris, that can all catch the ball in traffic and evade and bust tackles to pick up extra yards after the catch. And they have the ability to be returners and be excellent Special Team Players. And a steal of a TE in Jake Butt out of Michigan. He likewise has great hands and catches the ball well and can pick up a lot of yardage after the catch too. And is a great Blocker, so he could turn into a Three Down TE over time. So some more really good tools for whoever wins the now three way battle, though Mr. Irelivant QB won’t be ready until late preseason, that is Chad Kelly out of Ole Miss and nephew of Jim Kelly. At his best, he is very good, but he knows he has to have his head scewed on straight and tight and keep it that way with some baggage he has in the past. He would have been a Round 1 or 2 choice without that. And it was the validation of his Uncle that reassured Elway to pick him, He probably has the highest ceiling of the 3 QB, but he has to prove that on the field for the Broncos Offensive Coaching Staff and Head Coach Joseph. And we picked up a whale of an Offensive Left Tackle in Garette Bolles out of Utah. Big and strong with good feet and athletic ability and some nastiness, he is the most ready LT Rookie to plug in and play. Of course he will have to prove it too, but my gut tells me he will start and excell and answer the biggest question mark the team had. Now the question moves to RG, but my gut also tells me Max Garcia will retain his Starting Position,
So I think our Offensive Line will be:
LT Garette Bolles
RG Ronald Leary
OC Matt Paradis
RG Max Garcia
RT Merileck Watson
Hopefully they gel fast and if so they will be a heck of an inprovement from last years Line. And if so we would have a great Running Game and that would open up the Passing Game. And more movement of the chains and much improved Red Zone performance. And more scoring of course. But it all revolves on better Line Performance, so the sooner they gel, the better. And all of this would let the World Class Defense get more rest, which would lead to more ability to attack more and create Sacks and Turnovers. And they added two players to the Defense. DE DeMarcus Walker from Florida State and Brendan Langley out of Lamar. Of the two, Walker probably will play more in the Defensive Line. He is very quick and could be a good run defender who can also collapse the Pocket or Penetrate and get or cause sacks. I think he will be an impact player this season. Langley is a good sized CB, but is a little raw and needs to be refined in the No Fly Zone, but no better teachers and mentors than Harris, Talib and Robey. So he will mainly get his feet wet in nickle and dime formations.
I think this will be a much more fun season than last years for the players, coaches and Staff and Huge Broncos Country that spans the World. They also have signed 11 UDFAs. They are:
Deon Hollins OLB UCLA
Orion Stewart DB Baylor
Jamal Carter S Miami
Tyrique Jarrett DT Pittsburgh
Shakir Soto DE Pittsburgh
Kyle Slater QB Northern Colorado
Josh Banderis LB Nebraska
Erik Austell OL Charleston Southern
Anthony Nash WR Duke
Marcus Rios CB UCLA
Ken Ekanem DE Virginia Tech
So GO,GO Broncos and work real hard and start to get ready for a Tough Schedule, but you are tough too, so the tougher you are more mentally is often the winning factor. Get in really good shape and Broncos Country is Squarely behind you United in Orange!!!
