Week 9 Prediction Article: Denver Broncos @ Indianapolis Colts

Week 9 – Regular Season
Denver Broncos @ Indianapolis Colts
Sunday, November 8, 2015 @ 4:25pm EST

Good morning Bronco fans!  It is week 9 in the NFL and today we have the opportunity to watch Peyton Manning return “home” and break two of the most prolific records that a quarterback could break.  Last week by defeating the Green Bay Packers, Peyton Manning tied Brett Favre for the most wins ever by a quarterback in NFL history.  Today, the Broncos can help Manning break that record with a win in the house that Peyton built.  Manning is also 284 yards away from owning the all time record for passing yards in a career.

Let’s take a closer look at today’s Week 9 opponent, the 3-5 Indianapolis Colts.

Offense:  Indy is led by 4th year quarterback, Andrew Luck.  Luck has had a rough start to the 2015 campaign as he has completed under 55% of his pass attempts, leads the league in interceptions with 12, and has been sacked 14 times in 8 games.  Receiver T.Y. Hilton is questionable for today’s game as he has missed practice all week and has been seen in a walking boot.  Hilton will be tested before the start of the game to see if he will be ready to go.  Luck will need the help of running back Frank Gore to keep the Broncos defense off balance or it could be a long day for the Colts offense.  If Luck can find some time and rhythm with his receivers, they could find ways to put points on the board.

  • The Colts offense is ranked #16 overall with an average of 352.2 yards per game
  • They are ranked #13 in passing, with an average of 253.4 yards per game
  • They rank 24th overall in the running department, averaging 98.9 yards per game
  • Andrew Luck has thrown 13 touchdowns while also throwing 12 interceptions

Defense: The Colts defense ranks among the worst in the league, as they allow over 404 yards per game and allow an average of 25.4 points per game.  Teams have had success running the ball and throwing the ball against the Colts this season.  This Colts defense is going to have to step up in a big way today to contain the receivers that Peyton Manning will have at his disposal.  Linebacker D’Qwell Jackson could be extremely busy today containing new Bronco TE Vernon Davis.

  • LB D’Qwell Jackson leads the team with 92 total tackles
  • LB Robert Mathis leads the team with 4 sacks, however he only has 8 total tackles
  • Strong Safety Mike Adams has snagged a team leading 4  interceptions

:  The Bronco offense finally got in gear as they put up a total of 500 yards against the Green Bay Packers.  Led by Peyton Manning’s 340 passing yards and a combined 161 yards by C.J. Anderson and Ronnie Hillman, the offense was firing on all cylinders in a huge week 8 win.  Demaryius Thomas came up big as he reeled in 8 passes for 168 yards.  Tight ends Virgil Green and Owen Daniels combined for 6 catches and 105 yards.  Manning will have a new target to throw to today thanks to the recent addition of Tight End Vernon Davis.  Davis could provide Manning with the 3rd solid option that has been missing since the departure of Julius Thomas.

  • TE Vernon Davis has 194 receiving yards on 18 receptions
  • WR Demaryius Thomas leads the team with 56 receptions and 695 yards
  • QB Peyton Manning kept his interception streak in-tact.  He has at least 1 interception in every game this year
  • RB Ronnie Hillman leads the Broncos backfield with 383 yards and has contributed 4 touchdowns

Defense:  77?  Yes, 77!  That is the number of yards that QB Aaron Rodgers threw for last week against this Denver defense.  That was the worst game of Aaron Rodgers’ career.  38?  Yes, 38.  That is the number of yards that RB Eddie Lacy gained in the game last week against the Denver defense.  Throw in a few more small numbers, add it all up, and that is a total of 140 yards for the Green Bay Packers offense last week.

This defense has been truly amazing to watch and even more amazing to analyze.  This Broncos defense is playing at an all time high level, and has been brought into conversations with teams like the 2000 Ravens and the 1985 Bears.  They attack in every phase of defense.  They harass quarterbacks, they stick to receivers like glue, and they smash running backs in the mouth with relentless pursuit.

Ranked #1 overall in the NFL in yards allowed per game, points allowed per game, passing yards per game, sacks, interceptions, and total points allowed, this is a team that is hard to beat.  They don’t have ( m)any weaknesses, and they seem to be getting better every week.

Recap: Once again, this defense is going to be way too much for Andrew Luck and the Colts offense to handle.  They just fired their Offensive Coordinator and T.Y. Hilton is a banged up, game time decision.  Peyton and company have started to find their groove and Vernon Davis just made this offense a lot better.

Look for the offensive momentum to carry over into this week.  Peyton will want to get Demaryius and Emmanuel involved early to keep the defense at bay.  Records will be broken, tears will be shed, and at the end of the day, Peyton Manning and the Broncos will be 8-0!

Final Score Prediction

Indianapolis Colts – 16

Denver Broncos – 31
