Week 13 Prediction: Denver Broncos @ Kansas City Chiefs

Good morning Broncos fans.  What a rough week for a Denver fan.  I am still not over that disappointing implosion by the Broncos in New England last week.  I feel like this team should be undefeated, however, mental errors have proven to be costly to our team.  While it is good to get these things out of your system now, I would rather not see them happening at all.  Ok, I’ll get over it.  Let’s move on to Week 13.

For the second time in three weeks, the two top ranked teams in the NFL will go head to head.  What makes it more exciting is that it is a pivotal, division game which will have huge playoff implications.  What makes it more difficult, is that it is a road game for Denver in one of the hardest places to play in the NFL.  What make it better is that Denver has Peyton Manning and not Alex Smith.

5 Keys For My Prediction

1.  Look, I didn’t have much respect for this  team the first time we played them, and I am definitely not going to sing their praises this time.  Both teams have lost key players heading into this game.  For Denver, we are missing 2 defensive lineman in Terrance Knighton and now, Derek Wolfe and could be without star corner back DRC.  For the Chiefs, they will be without Justin Houston and possibly, Tamba Hali.  Champ Bailey is back, for what it’s worth, but I just don’t see how a change of scenery makes that much of a difference in THIS ballgame.  Home field advantage is true, but this match up doesn’t come close to the likes of Denver vs. New England, or Denver vs. Indy.  Peyton knows what worked two weeks ago, and knows what will work today.  The Chiefs will lose for the third time in a row, and Denver will take the drivers seat in the division.

2.  Nice and cozy.  Kickoff temperature will be around 50 degrees.  Not 30, not freezing and not windy.  Peyton will be comfortable and will find his groove.  Even with the recent decline in offensive production, the Broncos still average 451 yards and 39 points per game.  The Chiefs are now giving up 350 yards per game and are starting to come back to reality.

3.  No coming back.  Alex Smith is not Tom Brady.  It’s not even close.  Once the Broncos get a lead on the Chiefs, they have no way of coming back offensively.  Barring a complete second half meltdown, the Broncos should take the lead early and cruise.

4. Stop the run.  With two linemen out on the defensive front for Denver, the next man up, and the linebackers will need to be on the same page to smother Jamal Charles.  Charles ranks 5th in the NFL with over 900 rushing yards, boasts a 4.6 yard per carry average and has found pay dirt 8 times already this season.  Contain Charles, and you have beaten the Chiefs.

5.  Still the greatest offense of all time.  Keep your eyes on the prize and don’t look back.  Those losses, those mental errors, they have made you what you are today and will continue to mold you over the course of the season and your career.  Relish the experience to play football with Peyton Manning, and keep focus.  The SuperBowl is still very much within our reach!  Go Broncos!

Final Score Prediction

Denver Broncos – 34

Kansas City Chiefs – 17
