Broncos boss John Elway said early Monday afternoon that coach John Fox is in recovery after heart surgery in North Carolina and it will be known soon how long his recovery time is expected to take, Joan Niesen of the Denver Post reports.
Fox underwent aortic valve replacement surgery in his heart Monday morning, and will take a leave of absence. The team has not determined how much of a limited role — if any — Fox can play during his recovery period.
“Everything has been positive up to this point and time,” Elway said. “When we hear back how everything went, we’ll relay that. Our main concern here is… the well-being of John Fox and getting him healthy.”
Elway said he last spoke to Fox late Sunday night before his early Monday morning surgery. The coach was in good spirits, Elway said, and seemed more curious about what was going on with his team than scared about the upcoming procedure.
