Cut day is here and all teams must be down to a 53 man roster. For some families, like the Gronkowski’s, 2 of the 3 brothers were cut, Chris Gronkowski for the Cowboys, and Dan Gronkowski from the Broncos.

Some players might still have enough gas in the tank in order to make an impact for another team. A few shockers let go by the Patriots were WR Brandon Tate, 2 time Pro Bowl safety Brandon Meriweather, and RB Sammy Morris.

Tate was a big surprise to me because he’s only coming into his 3rd season and thus far has been overshadowed and not given a huge chance to play. In 10 games last year Tate had 24 catches for 432 yards averaging 18 yards per catch and scoring 3 TDs. Tate also added 5 rushing attempts for 62 yards.

Meriweather was shocking as well since he’s played in a Pro Bowl two out of the four years he’s been in the league. Meriweather has totalled 181 tackles and 12 INTs since being drafted in 2007.

Another player I think will find a new home is DT Igor Olshansky. When looking at his numbers, he hasn’t really had a drop in production over the last few years so it would seem it was a numbers game by the Cowboys. I’m sure Olshansky’s agent will be getting a lot of calls from teams needing help at defensive end.

The Colts released QB Dan Orlovsky which means Collins and Painter will be the backup QBs to Manning on opening day. The Colts also released Tommie Harris after signing him in the offseason. I think Harris could still have what it takes to help out as team who desperately needs some help on the defensive line.

Chester Taylor was also released today by the Bears, and I think he can still be a good low end #2 RB and I think he’ll be getting a call sometime soon.

Some less known players I think can still have a good chance to play and succeed are DT Nick Hayden released by the Carolina Panthers, CB Brandon Ghee released by the Cincinnati Bengals as well as others. It will be interesting to watch who goes where in the next couple days.
