New DC Dennis Allen Open to Having Brian Dawkins Back

New Denver defensive coordinator Dennis Allen seems open to the idea of retaining 37-year-old DB Brian Dawkins for the 2011 season. “One thing about Brian Dawkins, when you look at the tape, he doesn’t play slow,” Allen said Saturday.

“He plays fast. He has some speed and athleticism and through his knowledge of the game, it allows him to play at a fast tempo. At the end of the day, that’s really what you’re looking for.” Dawkins, who completed his 15th season in the NFL and second campaign with the Broncos, didn’t show signs of slowing down despite playing only 11 games. Dawkins recorded 66 tackles and two forced fumbles, but missed Weeks 6-7 and 13-15 with a troublesome knee injury.
