Broncos acquire Patriots running back Laurence Maroney

The Broncos have a new running back, as sources are reporting the team has acquired Patriots back Laurence Maroney and their 2011 sixth-round pick the Broncos fourth-round pick in 2011.

Maroney didn’t play in the Pats win over Cincy on Sunday, and was inactive for the game with a thigh injury and saw limited action in the preseason. By all indications, he had fallen behind Fred Taylor, Sammy Morris and Kevin Faulk on the team’s depth chart at running back.

Maroney had a tumultuous career as a Patriots filled with highs and lows, but had obviously fallen out of favor with the club after fumbling problems last season. Maroney, the Patriots first round selection in the 2006 NFL Draft, has to be considered a major bust because he never lived up to the high expectations the team had for him.

He will get a chance to make an impact behind Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter. The team also has Lance Ball and Andre Brown listed at running back.
