Will the Broncos Secondary Live Up to the Hype?

Broncos strong safety Renaldo Hill is throwing around some strong words about the Broncos secondary and how he expects it to play in 2009. “We should be the top secondary in the league,” Hill said in today’s Denver Post. “I don’t think anyone is expecting anything less.”

As the Post does point out, the Broncos have set themselves up with one heck of a unit, as the squad has 15 combined Pro Bowls, (Champ Bailey and Brian Dawkins), and they also have Hill and his past season added Dolphins CB Andre Goodman.

“Yeah, on paper we sound good,” Goodman said. “Super Bowls were never won on paper. At the end of the day, you can put five Hall of Fame players in the secondary, and if you don’t win, what does it matter?”

Of course Bailey says that the proof will be in the pudding, and right now is not the time to start ranking units, this before training camp even starts. “Right now, we’re not even thinking about where we rank as a secondary, we’re just trying to get to know each other and jell together,” Bailey said. “I don’t know a whole lot about Renaldo or Andre, but I know they’re smart players, and it seems like they want to do whatever it takes to win. Of course, I knew about Dawk, but after being around him, the thing about him is his intensity. He can put some fear in people.”
