Broncos Roster Shakeup Continues w/ the Cutting of CB Bly

The cuts just keep coming for the Broncos, as on Tuesday the team dumped 11-year veteran cornerback Dre’ Bly. He came to the Broncos from the Lions back in March of 2007 after Darrent Williams had been killed in a drive-by shooting two months earlier.

In his two years in Denver, Bly recorded 134 tackles, a sack and seven interceptions, including 77 stops and two interceptions last year.

The Broncos have been on a tear with getting rid of players over the last two days. Bly becomes the fourth defensive starter dumped this week by the new regime of general manager Brian Xanders and coach Josh McDaniels.

Bly was due to count $6.8 million against next season’s $123 million salary cap. On Monday, the team released high-priced defensive tackle Dewayne Robertson, who had a $16 million cap number, along with linebacker Jamie Winborn, safety Marquand Manuel, special teamer Niko Koutouvides, defensive end John Engelberger and tight end Nate Jackson.

Bly, Winborn, Robertson and Manuel all started last season for the Broncos awful defense. Overall, Denver has cut over $26 million in cap space over the last 24 hours.
