Former 49ers head coach Mike Nolan has been named the new defensive coordinator of the Broncos. Nolan becomes the first assistant hired by Denver’s new head coach Josh McDaniels, and has a history with the Broncos, having served as a member of former coach Dan Reeves’ staff from 1987-to-1992. The 49-year-old was fired as San Francisco’s head coach in October after three-plus seasons on the job. He has also served as defensive coordinator for the New York Giants, Washington Redskins, New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens. McDaniels is also pursuing former Houston Texans’ head coach Dom Capers to join the staff. Capers is currently working in the New England organization where McDaniels was hired from.
