Things are getting nothing but worse for the Broncos running back situation. The team is going to be putting rookie RB Peyton Hillis on IR after he suffered a torn hamstring in Denver’s 24-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday.
IR has already has claimed four other Denver running backs this season.
“He tore the muscle about two or three inches, so he will be on injured reserve,” Shanahan said. “It is about an eight-week recovery. We are looking at a specialist to see if he should have surgery. Right now, we don’t think they would go in that direction but we haven’t ruled it out for sure. We should find out in the next 24 hours if they decide to go in that direction.”
Selvin Young has had just one carry in the past seven games due to a lingering groin injury. Hillis, a blocking fullback in college, has been a revelation for the Broncos, scoring five touchdowns in his last four games after being pressed into emergency duty at tailback.
Hillis’ injury leaves Tatum Bell as the only healthy tailback on the roster. Bell rushed for 52 yards on 11 carries after Hillis was hurt Sunday.

That’s a real shame, Hillis was looking very solid for us. It was nice to see a decisive runner hit the hole with authority. You could see the change in style immediately when Tatum was pressed into action. That guy still thinks too much.
I wonder if we’ll see Boyd on the field this week? That guy looked solid in college.
