Henry Escapes One-year Ban Winning Appeal

Running back Travis Henry and the rest of his team got great news today as he has avoided a one-year suspension by winning his appeal over a failed  drug test.  Henry had appealed the test after the NFL told him he would be suspended for failing a test for marijuana.  Henry’s argument was that the league didn’t allow an expert of Henry’s choosing to be present when the test took place.

“I’m thrilled,” Henry’s agent, Harvey Steinberg said. “I always thought we should prevail. I knew that if we got a fair shake, based on the evidence, we’d win. Travis knows and he’s absolutely thrilled and relieved and very happy.”  Broncos coach Mike Shanahan put his full support behind Henry the whole time, believing that the back was innocent.  Henry passed a polygraph test and had a hair sample come back negative for marijuana.

Henry had served a four-game suspension back in 2005 with the Titans, and signed a five-year, $22.5 million dollar deal with the Broncos in the offseason.  The contract included $12 mil in guarantees.  The Broncos issued a statement that said they were “pleased with this outcome and happy that Travis has been absolved of any wrongdoing with respect to this matter.”
