Broncos shake up special teams; waive Hixon

In what is without a doubt a move to improve their special teams and also to hopefully reverse a two-game losing streak, Josh Alper of AOL NFL Fanhouse and Bill Williamson of the Denver Post report that the Denver Broncos have released kick and punt returner Domenik Hixon. Head coach Mike Shanahan and cornerback Champ Bailey lately have been critical of the lackluster effort of the special teams, hence the move.
The team however does have some options: running back Andre Hall, wide receivers Brian Clark and Brian Martinez and possibly CB Jeff Shoate, all of them possibilities. Initially, the Broncos were high on Hixon, after a strong training camp. Hixon was averaging 22.8 yards per kickoff return and 4.6 yards per punt return. But apparently a fumble in the Broncos’ loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars expedited his departure.
