Rice a Possible Option for Broncos

Rice

The Broncos continue to keep a keen eye on free-agent defensive end Simeon Rice, but there is nothing yet considered in signing him soon. What makes grabbing Rice is that Denver has two available roster spots open, and they just traded defensive tackle Gerard Warren to the Oakland Raiders. Also, one of their starting defensive end’s out for the year with an ACL injury – Ebenezer Ekuban. Look for Denver now to serious look into this and make a major swing to close a deal with Rice. I expect the Broncos to give him a shot and sign him this upcoming Tuesday (roster’s get trimmed).

Their D-Line is already shaky (Kenard Lang and Engelberger – underachievers and cast-offs) and they can use someone to mentor first-round pick Jarvis Moss (Florida) and second-round choice Tim Crowder (Texas). Rice can put up around 7 or 8 sacks in this system and help Denver reach the Top 5 in Defense. They really could use Rice to start and I think the Broncos will reach a deal sooner rather than later. It may be unexpectedly, seeing Coach Shanahan is trying to build the line through young, draft picks, but don’t count out the chances of Rice donning the Blue & Orange in ’07.
